While we await the release of SharePoint 2010, Microsoft has announced that Groove will be renamed as SharePoint Workspace 2010. According to the Groove team blog, Groove will be added to Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2010, with the name of SharePoint Workspace 2010, together with One note.
This gives a strong indication that Microsoft is paying serious attention to offline content access capability of SharePoint. In MOSS 2007, although we can use local folders, Outlook and Groove for offline file access, it was not up to the expectations of most of the users. Another issue was that Groove has to be purchased separately. With this move, this will be solved and let us hope that it will have more user friendly functionalities as well.
